Meet the Author

I’m Rhea Rose, a multi-award-nominated writer, editor, and creative writing teacher known for my captivating speculative fiction stories and evocative poetry. My work has been featured in prominent publications such as the Tesseracts series, Pulp Literature, On Spec and other esteemed literary and genre magazines. With preliminary nominations for the Nebula Award, Aurora Award, and Rhysling Award, my writing and creativity have been recognized by both readers and industry professionals alike.

I attended Clarion West and hold an MFA in creative writing from UBC. I share my expertise as a creative writing teacher, guiding aspiring writers in honing their craft. In addition to my writing accomplishments, I’m actively involved in the speculative fiction community as an editor and publisher. On occasion, I have provided copy editing services for Amazing Stories ®, contributing to the maintenance of quality content in one of the leading publications in speculative fiction.

I’m the founder of RainWood Press, a small indie press dedicated to showcasing the works of emerging and established Canadian speculative fiction writers. Through RainWood Press, I published the acclaimed collection “Stellar Evolutions” offering readers a glimpse into the vibrant and diverse world of Canadian speculative fiction. My passion for storytelling extends beyond the written word.

I draw inspiration from my overactive imagination and a lifelong love for science fiction and fantasy. My writing explores big ideas and delves into the mysteries of the universe, blending humor with horror to create psychologically rich narratives that I hope leave a lasting impact on readers.

Through my stories, I hope to offer readers something unexpected, challenging them to see the world with a different perspective and to feel compelled to explore the depths of my imaginative worlds. I aim to leave my audience both entertained and introspective, sparking conversations and reflections long after the final page is turned.

Throughout my writing journey, I’ve learned valuable lessons about finding my way as a writer, staying the course, and continuing to challenge myself. I’ve navigated changing times in the industry, embracing new technologies and publishing platforms while remaining dedicated to my craft. When I’m not writing, I enjoy walking, traveling, and attending writing retreats and conferences. I find inspiration in exploring new places and engaging with fellow writers and readers in the speculative fiction community. My interests also include music, particularly classical chamber music, and I’ve collaborated with composer Nick Kelly to set many of my poems to music.

My more recent short works appear in ParSec Ink’s Triangulation Dark Skies, 2019; On Spec’s 2021 issue (featured poet), Pulp Literature 2022 issue #35(featured Writer) ParSec Magazine (online), issue #9, 2024.
